25 Things to Do to Help You Get Settled After Moving to Las Cruces

1. Be prepared to introduce yourself to others at parks, sporting events, theaters, and churches in Las Cruces!
   
2. Get a New Mexico driver's license.
   
3. Get new license plates for all your vehicles
   
4. Shop for insurance policies (especially car) It's so much easier to call a local agent when your next fender bender happens. (See our business directory)
   
5. You should also look into renter's insurance if you are temporarily or permanently renting an apartment or real estate in Las Cruces.
   
6. Read the yellow pages and LCNC referral guide to familiarize yourself with services available in Las Cruces, and see those that LNC has carefully screened and selected for referral to you.
   
7. Contact the Las Cruces Newcomers Connection Welcome Greeting Service to visit you.
   
8. Carry a local map in the car. Available from the LC Newcomers Connection Welcome Greeting Service or Chamber of Commerce.
   
9. Go to the Chamber of Commerce for local information.
   
10. Get a library card. Check out a book on Las Cruces and or NM.
    
11. Subscribe to the Las Cruces Sun News and the Bulletin.
    
12. Check on places of interest within a day's drive from your
    city. Great for weekend exploring and entertainment in, or just outside of Las Cruces! Take a picnic to the nearest county or state park. (Check out Attractions on this website)
    
13. Locate the hospital nearest you. Memorial Medical Center and Mountain View Regional Hospital.

15. Find out when your garbage pick-up is and what recycling procedures are here in Las Cruces.(See Las Cruces City resource guide located in welcome bag)
    
16. Find a church home, or place of worship in Las Cruces if you haven't already. (See referral guide for Church listings)
    
17. Introduce yourself to your mail carrier.
    
18. Check out banks. (See LCNC Referral Guide)
    
19. Start checks with the same number your last bank ended with for continuity and merchant reassurance of your stability.
    
20. To help you feel "established." Send for things like address labels and free offers to be delivered to your new address.
    
21. Refer to LCNC Referral Guide to find reliable service people such as Plumbers, Electricians, landscape management, exterminators, etc.
